For infants, breast milk is the most significant nutritional source for the comprehensive development both physically and mentally. It is the milk produced by the breast of female for her offspring. Breast milk is the primary source of nutrition for the newborn baby before they are able to eat and digest other foods. In the first four months after birth, babies just breastfeed and do not need to either eat or drink anything else. During the next month, 5th, because of the increase of nutritional needs when the amount of  breast milk rose to the maximum, it is necessary for additional food besides breast milk; however, breast milk is still a vital source of nutrition needed to maintain. Furthermore, mothers should pay attention to the way of feeding your baby:

  • Milk in the breast is different. The milk flows when baby starts suckling called “first milk”, there is a plenty of water that makes the baby slake, and the end of the breastfeeding is “ last milk” that contains more fat to help infants gain weight.
  • If the mother wants to put weight on their baby, she should let her offspring to be breastfed both first and last milk. However, if the mother feeds the baby one side and then the other side, she will make her milk just getting started, so her child can’t gain weight.
  • The mother should suckle once off one side, if the baby is still hungry, feeding on the other side, and so on.

In this stage, the baby needs to be breastfed or milk powder. Besides, it is important to supply some other foods such as: a small amount of soft pasteurized cheese, yogurt, cheese, cereals rich in iron (such as rice, barley, wheat, oats, and mixed grains), fruits and vegetables like bananas, peaches, pears, butter, cooked carrots, pumpkin, potatoes, and sweet potatoes. Foods, which they can eat and hold as a piece of bread, sliced ripe bananas, cooked pasta, crackers, cookies, or grains in an O-shaped and a small amount of protein – rich food such as eggs, minced meat, poultry, boneless fishes, tofu, peas, and black beans is needed.

Stage 3: from 10-12 months
